MacPherson seeks more investment

St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson believes the way forward for the Paisley club is a positive approach to football and investment in new players.

The Buddies secured top-flight football next season ahead of Inverness Caledonian Thistle on goal difference.

"We don't want to be in this kind of situation every season in the SPL," MacPherson told BBC Scotland.

"There's a board meeting on Monday and the only way we can move forward is if we get investment in the team."

St Mirren suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Hamilton in their final match of the season but were saved from relegation after Falkirk beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Highland side's inferior goal difference consigned Terry Butcher's men to play their football in the First Division next season.

This club demands to be the premier league - but there's more hard work that needs to be done, and we need to move forward and be positive

However, after a frustrating fourth season in the SPL in which the Buddies failed to record a league win in their new St Mirren Park stadium, MacPherson believes the club are more determined than ever to succeed at the top level.

"We appreciate how tough it is to move forward, but we have to look to do that and that's the plan," said MacPherson.

"The positive we take is that we're still in the SPL and we've got to learn from it.

"It's been frustrating, especially at home, and before the split we had some good performances but couldn't win games.
