Howard signed for St Mirren from Cardiff City in the summer of 2007

St Mirren goalkeeper Mark Howard has agreed a new two-year deal with the Scottish Premier League club.

The deal will keep the 22-year-old at the Paisley outfit until 2011.

Howard's commitment to St Mirren is a huge boost after their other first-team keeper, Chris Smith, underwent surgery on cruciate ligament damage last week.

The keeper, who joined the Buddies from Cardiff City in the summer of 2007, has been manager Gus MacPherson's first pick for the majority of this season.
