St Johnstone have paid what they describe as a "substantial fee" to Airdrie United for the services of 21-year-old winger Paul McLaren. He signed a three-year deal as Celtic's 22-year-old midfielder Paul Lawson arrived in Perth on loan until January.
Airdrie's website stated: "We have turned down a number of bids from St Johnstone in the last year.
"At a time when there are little or no monies changing hands for SFL players, we are delighted to finalise the deal."
Airdrie believe it will be "beneficial to all parties".
Willie has been a great servant to the Club and provided us with some memorable moments," the stated.
"But as a result of Willie leaving, we will be moving to strengthen the squad."
Airdrie did not sign anyone before Thursday's closure of the transfer window.
However, the club stressed that they could still sign players currently without a club.
New Saints recruit Lawson is an under-21 international and made one start and three appearances as a substitute for Celtic last season.
