Southend United accept Peter Gilbert red card

Stevenage 1-1 Southend

Southend United have decided not to appeal against Peter Gilbert's sending off in Tuesday's draw with Stevenage.

The full-back, 27, was given his marching orders for a tackle on Boro's Jon Ashton in the 1-1 stalemate and will now serve a three-match ban.

Bilel Mohsni and Anthony Grant will also miss the Shrimpers' next game, a trip to Cheltenham, after picking up five yellow cards.

"We're not going to appeal," boss Paul Sturrock told the club website.

"We've watched the DVD of the incident and whilst Peter wins the ball it looks a worse tackle on tape than it perhaps was on the night.

"The club has spoken with the FA and their people have advised on the evidence of the DVD that the success of any appeal is very slim.

"The last thing we want to do is appeal and then get an extra game added as it i believed to be frivolous."
