Southend United midfielder Stuart O'Keefe is to have surgery on a hernia that will keep him on the sidelines for at least four weeks.
The 18-year-old, who has made four appearances for United this season, has not featured since the 2-0 defeat by Millwall on 26 January.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that fellow midfielder Anthony Grant does not need surgery on an ankle injury.
Grant picked up the injury in the 2-2 draw with Swindon on 30 January.
