Tilson believes referee Keith Hill made the right decision.
Southend United manager Steve Tilson says the decision to call-off the League One clash with Scunthorpe on Tuesday night was the right one.
Referee Keith Hill postponed the match just 15 minutes before kick-off as the pitch was frozen in parts.
Tilson told BBC Essex: "There's a little bit of ice on it and the ref was worried about the player's safety.
"It was only going to get worse, he's made the decision and at the end of the day is was the right one."
Volunteers and club officials spent the whole of Tuesday afternoon trying to clear the snow off the pitch.
When the snow had been moved it was discovered that the pitch was icy in parts and was judged not to be playable.
Tilson praised the efforts of those who tried to get the game on: "That was thick snow, and they've worked wonders to clear the amount of snow they have."
"They'll be as devastated as I am that the game has been called off."
