Southend United manager Steve Tilson hopes his players will feel the pain of losing 5-2 to Walsall on Saturday.
The Blues slipped to 19th place in League One after conceding four goals in the second half.
A dejected Tilson told BBC Essex: "It might be the game to give some of the players a kick up the backside.
"It has got to hurt to lose 5-2, if it doesn't hurt we're not going to get [where we want to], so a kick up the backside might do us a bit of good."
He added: "Man for man we should be as good as them, without a shadow of a doubt.
"From a team point of view it was poor defending, you can't concede four goals as we did in that manner and expect to win a game."
