Southend United chairman Ron Martin believes the agents representing Nicky Bailey, Peter Clarke and Simon Francis have given their clients bad advice.
The trio have all rejected improved contracts and, as a result, been transfer-listed by the League One club.
Martin told BBC Essex: "It's not in the players' best interests. I think all three players are happy at Southend.
"It's disappointing but it's the name of the game. They are very demanding but not for the good of the player."
Midfielder Bailey has two years to go on his deal with defenders Clarke and Francis both having twelve months to run on theirs.
