Shrimpers star Freddy Eastwood is hoping to make his international debut in August's friendly between Wales and Bulgaria. The striker was ruled out of the European Championship qualifying clash with the Czech Republic through injury.
And although still not fully fit, the 23-year-old is desperate to win a full call up as soon as possible.
"If I can start well for Southend, then I know I will have a good chance to play in the Bulgaria game," he said.
Speaking to the club's official site, Eastwood, who qualifies for Wales because through his grandfather, revealed his disappointment at missing the clash with the Czechs.
"I was disappointed to get injured and not have the chance to feature in this game," he said.
"But I am hopeful I will be able to win a call-up for the friendly over in Bulgaria.
"My injury is feeling a lot better now, and, even though I am not 100% fit, I aim to get fit over the summer and be ready for the start of pre-season."
