Southend United say they have yet to hear back from Motherwell over their bid for striker Scott McDonald. Motherwell were reported to have rejected a bid from the Championship club for the 23-year-old Australian.
"We have made a bid for Scott and we are waiting to hear back from Motherwell now," Southend chairman Ron Martin told The Echo newspaper.
The Melbourne-born striker has scored nine goals this season and has 18 months left on his current contract.
And Martin added: "Steve Tilson and Paul Brush went up to watch Scott play against Rangers earlier on this week and they have identified him as someone they want to bring to the football club."
McDonald joined the Steelmen in January 2004 and his previous clubs include Southampton, Bournemouth and Huddersfield Town.
