Tilson has been in charge of Southend since November 2003 |
Southend manager Steve Tilson has signed a year's extension to his contract at Roots Hall, keeping him at the club until 2011. Assistant manager Paul Brush has also signed on for a further 12 months.
Shrimpers chairman Ron Martin has taken the step to confirm his commitment to the current management team despite the club being bottom of the Championship.
Tilson, 40, has guided his side to back-to-back promotions since taking charge in November 2003.
The four teams directly above Southend - Hull, Leeds, Barnsley and QPR - have all parted company with their managers this season.
Tilson told BBC Essex: "We've been having talks since May so It's good to get it sorted out.
"It's based on what we've achieved and it's good to have the support of the chairman.
Southend chairman Ron Martin added: "Steve and Paul are an integral part of where we want to take this club.
"They have also given me a list of players they'd like in the transfer window and I would envisage signing two or three."
