Stevie Hammell has completed his move to Championship newcomers Southend United, the club has confirmed. The 24-year-old full-back left Motherwell under freedom of contract, turning down an offer from Aberdeen in favour of trying his luck in England.
Southend manager Steve Tilson described Hammell's signing as "great news".
"A lot of arguably bigger sides were interested in him, but he wanted to be a part of what we are trying to build here," he told the club website.
"I've got no doubt in my mind he'll be an excellent acquisition."
