 Griemink struggled with knee problems after leaving Swindon |
Southend keeper Bart Griemink, 34, is to retire because of a persistent knee injury, on the advice of a specialist. The Dutchman has made 26 appearances since moving to Roots Hall from Swindon in the summer of 2004, following spells at Birmingham and Peterborough.
"I've had a bad time with knee injuries - the specialist has advised me to stop, or I could have problems in later life," he told the club website.
Meanwhile, the Shrimpers have released 34-year-old defender Andy Edwards.
Edwards recently spent three months on loan at Conference side Grays Athletic.
