Southend are hopeful of moving from Roots Hall in the future |
Southend United chairman Ron Martin is hoping to buy out fellow joint owner Delancey Estates' stake in the League One club before the end of the year. If the deal goes ahead, it will boost United's plans to leave Roots Hall and build a new ground at Fossetts Farm.
"Everything is nearly agreed, and a deal should be completed soon," Martin told a sponsors' forum on Thursday.
"Delancey felt they could sell the Fossetts Farm site to others, but I wasn't prepared to let that happen."
There have been proposals for the Shrimpers to move to Fossetts Farm, a greenfield site near their training ground, since Martin's property development company Martin Dawn took charge of the club seven years ago.
