Southend have reacted angrily to the Football Association's decision to extend striker Freddy Eastwood's ban by an additional game after they appealed. Eastwood was suspended for three games after he saw red for violent conduct in the 1-1 draw with Huddersfield.
But the FA dismissed the appeal and added another game to the ban, stating that the appeal was "frivolous".
"For the FA to state it was frivolous is nonsense and subjective," Shrimpers chairman Ron Martin fumed.
"The club does not regret making an appeal against Freddy's red card, because in our eyes it wasn't a sending-off offence," he told the club website.
"A booking would have sufficed because a gentle push to the torso should not be a red card, especially when you consider how some actions go unpunished.
"We were keen for common sense to have prevailed, and I will certainly be contacting the FA again to vent my frustrations at their decision."
It is the first time that the FA has imposed an extra suspension in these circumstances.
