Barrett was virtually ever-present in two years with Rovers |
Southend have completed the signing of Bristol Rovers defender Adam Barrett on a two-year contract. The 24-year-old centre-back will help fill the gap left by Leon Cort's move from Roots Hall to Hull City.
Boss Steve Tilson told the Shrimpers' website: "He'd been offered a two-year deal by Bristol Rovers on more money.
"But he wants to come to Southend and play for his home town club, and I can't say how good that is to see. That shows a lot of commitment to the club."
Dagenham-born Barrett added: "I'm delighted to have signed for the club I watched as a kid.
"I have strong links here, and the opportunity to play for my local club was too good to turn down."
Meanwhile, Tilson is to hold further talks with captain Kevin Maher, who he hopes to keep at the club.
Hull boss Peter Taylor recently denied that he would be following up his interest in the midfielder.
