McGoldrick began his career at Notts County as a trainee

Southampton striker David McGoldrick has signed a new three-year contract with the Championship club.

McGoldrick, 20, has scored four goals this season, after boss Jan Poortvliet handed him the lone-striker role.

He joined Saints from Notts County in 2004 and made his first appearance in the Carling Cup against Mansfield in September 2005.

Since arriving at St Mary's McGoldrick has had loan spells with Notts County, Bournemouth and Port Vale.
