Play-off hopefuls Crystal Palace were held to a goalless draw by Southampton at St Mary's Stadium. Palace had the best of the chances with Andy Johnson firing over with a volley from Michael Hughes' cross.
Johnson had another chance but failed to connect on to Wayne Andrews' low shot across goal.
Southampton also had a hatful of opportunities with Brett Ormerod firing over and Marian Pahars forcing Gabor Kiraly into a tip-over save.
Southampton manager George Burley:
"It was a good point for us. "I am in the process of rebuilding the team and saw enough today to suggest we have a bright future."
Crystal Palace boss Iain Dowie:
"We didn't get what we deserved and anybody who watched the game will admit that.
"We dominated the second half and on another day we would have got a much better result.
"The positive is that we've got a clean sheet and another point but the negative is we didn't get all three."
