Alan Ball does not expect former Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp to encounter problems with the fans after taking over at rivals Southampton. Ball, who also managed both clubs, said: "They are two fantastic sets of fans. I never had one dissenting voice.
"Portsmouth will thank him, he's given them exactly what they wanted -Premiership football.
"Southampton fans will welcome him - they respect what he did for Portsmouth and hope he can do the same for them."
Former Saints boss Lawrie McMenemy added that Redknapp's appointment should not come as a surprise.
"If Alan Ball managed Southampton and Portsmouth, there is nothing to say it cannot happen the other way," he said.
"There is nothing wrong with that. Harry is available, he is a football man. Nothing in football surprises me."
