Anders Svensson could be heading out of Southampton |
Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe has hit back at suggestions that Anders Svensson wants to leave the club. Swedish World Cup star Svensson's anger at being substituted 75 minutes into the FA Cup final saw him take a swipe at manager Gordon Strachan.
Svensson also reportedly hinted that his unhappiness at his role could leave him looking for a new club.
The Swede said: "Will I be back next season? We'll see. It's a possibility this could be my last game.
"I must admit that we play a type of football that doesn't suit me.
"All we do is try to run the opposition down and play long-ball football."
Svensson said: "If you are 1-0 down near the end you have to try and score. You don't sub a player who could create something.
But Saints chairman Lowe dismissed the reports and claimed Svensson was happy at the club.
Lowe told Southampton's official website: "That is not our understanding of the situation.
"It is nonsense and people would do well to check with the player and his agent.
Fernandes is disappointed at being left out of the Final |
"Gordon Strachan has spoken to the player who is very happy here and we are surprised by these stories."
French winger Fernandes also said he is considering his future after being dropped to the bench for the final, having played in all the previous rounds.
Strachan left the Frenchman out in the wake of Saints' 6-1 Premiership defeat at Highbury, opting to throw 21-year-old Chris Baird into the Final for just his second game.
Fernandes said: "I am bitterly disappointed that I have played virtually every game this season and then get left out for the most important one.
"Whay happens if I stay here and play all the games next season and then get dropped again if we play a big match?"
