Grant Holt admitted his goal tally was a "dream come true" after scoring five times in Shrewsbury's 7-0 Johnstone's Paint Trophy rout of Wycombe.
"I've never even scored a hat-trick before," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.
Frustratingly, Holt is suspended for Saturday's game with Port Vale, so he added: "I had to put a marker down for the manager to remember me by."
It was the first time a Shrewsbury player had scored five since Alf Wood helped Town beat Blackburn 7-1 in 1971.
