Shrewsbury are close to signing former Blackpool defender Michael Jackson, BBC Radio Shropshire understands.
Jackson, 34, was the Seasiders' club captain last season but his contract was not renewed after Blackpool boss Simon Grayson made wholesale changes.
Shrewsbury have announced a press conference for Tuesday morning.
Town have already confirmed they are holding talks with Nottingham Forest striker Grant Holt after agreeing a fee with the club.
Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson has told BBC Radio Shropshire he hopes to make one more signing by the end of the week.
Runcorn-born Jackson started his career at Crewe, before moving to Bury, then making his name at Preston.
He tore his hamstring in February and missed nearly two months of football before making a late season comeback. But he was then dropped for Blackpool's final game, when they dramatically survived the drop from the Championship, before being released by Grayson.
