Paul Simpson says he is facing a "real challenge" at Shrewsbury
Paul Simpson will shortly be offloading a number of Shrewsbury Town players.
"We need players who can cope in League Two. There are a lot here now who can't," the Town boss told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"I knew it was always going to be a tough job when I came here - but that's the challenge I wanted.
"We have to change the squad around as much as we can, and hopefully the club will give me a big enough budget to bring in the new players we need."
Simpson said he was very disappointed to finish Shrewsbury's home programme with a 0-0 draw with Chester.
"There were some positives - Chris Humphrey's crosses, Marc Tierney's attitude, James Constable's performance when he came on, and we kept a clean sheet.
"But at home we've been held by Chester and Notts County and lost to Bury, and we lost at Mansfield.
"That tells you this squad is not good enough and needs to be changed."
