Sheffield Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock has revealed Jon-Paul McGovern turned down the offer of a new deal at the start of the season. His statement comes a week after the winger, 24, said the Owls had yet to speak to him about a new contract.
"It was the prerogative of Jon-Paul and his agent to turn that offer down," Sturrock told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"I want JP to stay at the club. But it's up to him to play regularly and put a case up for negotiations."
