Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell has yet to decide whether to launch a summer bid to buy David Cotterill.
The Wigan wide man is currently on loan at Bramall Lane, but his future under former Blades boss Steve Bruce at the JJB Stadium is unclear.
"We've got a decision to make on many things, including Cotterill," Blackwell told BBC Radio Sheffield.
"He's lost his way at Wigan and we've given him a chance. So you never know what will happen."
Cotterill, signed by former Wigan boss Paul Jewell on transfer deadline day in August 2006, has failed to make an impression under Bruce.
And he took his time to settle in at Bramall Lane following his February loan move, having been signed just a week before the sacking of Bryan Robson.
But Cotterill has been in inspired form in recent weeks, helping United move to within five points of the Championship play-offs.
Cotterill revealed to BBC Radio Sheffield last week that he would like to return to Wigan and win a regular place in Bruce's side. But he also admitted that he was unsure of this future.
For now Blackwell is simply happy that he is making an impression with the Blades.
"Cotterill is a handful now," said Blackwell. "And people are starting to take notice of him.
"I'm pleased we've been part and parcel of that.
"He's full of confidence and his crossing and running at people is excellent. I wish he'd just believe in himself a little bit more because he excites me. I just wish I had what he's got because I know what I'd do if I had his talent."
