Kevin McCabe was in China to confirm the deal |
Sheffield United became the first foreign team to buy a Chinese club with confirmation of their purchase of Chengdu Five Bulls. The Blades purchase of a 90% stake in the club was confirmed by Sheffield United plc chairman Kevin McCabe.
McCabe said: "We will pour all-round support into the club, this is an exciting opportunity for us."
Under the terms of the deal, the Blades will send two coaches over to assist the mid-table second division club.
The Blades have been interested in acquiring a club in China for some time.
McCabe had said: "Part of it is to do with commercial reasons, trying to get further revenue generated from China."
"Obviously international players that play for the club we're buying just may have the potential to become first-team players here at Bramall Lane."
Chengdu is in southwestern Sichuan province, which has a population of almost 100m.
The Blades recently signed Chinese international defender Zhang Yaokun from Super League club Dalian Shide in a deal believed to be worth 70,000.
