McCall joined the Blades from Bradford in July 2002 |
Sheffield United assistant manager Stuart McCall has again hinted he may be ready to bring an end to his distinguished playing career. The 40-year-old former Scotland international has made only two Carling Cup appearances this season.
And he has indicated he would prefer to dedicate more time to his coaching responsibilities at Bramall Lane.
He told the club's website: "I won't come out and say I'm officially retired but it is a step closer."
McCall has been at Bramall Lane since July 2002 and was recently promoted to the assistant manager's position after David Kelly's departure to Preston.
"My first-team appearances were getting curtailed before Ned (Kelly) left," he added.
"I was only involved in the early part of the season because of injuries, but we have a few more bodies coming back and I have more responsibility on the coaching side.
"Plus a few of the boys are coming back from injuries and hopefully I won't be required."
