Scunthorpe United expect to make more that £200,000 profit from the visit of Manchester United to Glanford Park in the Carling Cup third round.
Iron vice chairman Rex Garton told BBC Radio Humberside that the cash from big cup games is vital to the club.
"Finance is always important to us and this is a bonus even though we budget to get into the third round," he said.
"The money goes into the running of the club and money is always made available to the manager if he wants it."
In recent seasons, Scunthorpe have had a series of lucrative cup matches including games against Manchester City and Chelsea.

And Garton added: "To get a sell-out is great and we get money from TV coverage.
"Over the last few years I've been saying to myself, 'what else has the club got to bring excitement to Glanford Park?'
"There's promotions, Championship football, big games and then suddenly out of the hat comes Manchester United."
