Scunthorpe United captain Izzy Iriekpen remains a major doubt for Saturday's game at Cheltenham but will not require groin surgery.

Iron manager Nigel Adkins says the 26-year-old defender does not need to go under the surgeons knife but will have treatment on a daily basis.

Adkins told BBC Radio Humberside; "It's a muscular injury and we need to make sure we strengthen it sufficiently.

"We'll reassess it and monitor him and go from there with him."

Iriekpen powered in a far-post header from 12 yards for the Iron's third goal in a 3-0 win over Crewe at Glanford Park on Saturday but has been playing in discomfort for a few weeks now.
