Rushden & Diamonds beat local rivals Peterborough United to lift the Maunsell Cup on Saturday at Nene Park.

League One new boys Peterborough had a number of early chances, but it was Rushden who took the lead through a Jon Challinor strike.

However, Dean McDonald, a new signing from Inverness, scored the winner for Blue Square Premier side Diamonds as they held on to win 2-1.

This continues Rushden's unbeaten pre-season and their next fixture is a friendly against Championship side Derby County at Nene Park on Tuesday.
