Rushden have suffered a difficult season after promotion last year |
Rushden & Diamonds have reached an agreement for the takeover of the club and announced Ernie Tippett as their new manager at Nene Park. Previous owner Max Griggs stepped down in October and ex-manager Brian Talbot left for Oldham in March, with Barry Hunter becoming interim player-boss.
"The board has agreed in principle the takeover by a group of businessmen," said a statement on Rushden's website.
Tippett was formerly on Wimbledon's coaching staff under Stuart Murdoch.
The statement added: "Ernie Tippett will become the new manager with immediate effect.
"It is intended that the necessary legal formalities of the takeover will be completed by the end of May.
"Ernie will be assisted in his role by Stuart Robson as coach and by John Bolle.
"The board has greatly appreciated the contribution of Barry Hunter since the departure of Brian Talbot.
"They wish to thank Barry for his efforts and leadership as interim player-manager and wish the new team and the players every success for the remaining matches."
Rushden are currently 19th in Division Two, just one point off the relegation zone.
