Rotherham United will be without midfielder Stephen Brogan until next year as he continues his recovery from his broken leg in February.

"There were complications because he had compartment syndrome," manager Mark Robins told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"It meant that they had to relieve the pressure in his calf because it's potentially life-threatening.

"His recovery is going to plan but not as quick as he would like. I think we're looking into the new year."

Brogan broke his leg early in the second half in the 1-1 draw at Milton Keynes Dons on 9 February.

Acute compartment syndrome disrupts the blood flow to the muscle and nerve cells. Without a steady supply of oxygen and nutrients, nerve and muscle cells begin to die within hours.

Unless the pressure is relieved quickly, in some cases it can cause permanent disability or death.
