Armstrong is believed to be on his way to the Berkshire side
Reading are giving Sheffield United full-back Chris Armstrong a second medical after agreeing a fee for him.
The 26-year-old has not started a league game this season and the BBC understand Reading have offered a deal worth up to 800,000 for the player.
Armstrong began his career at Bury and joined the Blades for 100,000 in 2003.
"In terms of respect to the player we've had to give him the chance to speak to them," United manager Kevin Blackwell told BBC Radio Sheffield.
The Royals are expected to announce the signing later this week.
The arrival of Armstrong will allow Stephen Hunt to move forward from left-back, where he has been filling in since the sale of Nicky Shorey to Aston Villa.
