Reading captain Graeme Murty does not expect Steve Sidwell to return to the club on a loan deal from Chelsea.

The 25-year-old joined Chelsea from the Royals in July 2007 but has struggled to establish himself in the first team.

He has been linked with a loan move to Portsmouth and Sunderland, but Murty told BBC Radio Berkshire he doubts he will return to the Madejski Stadium.

Murty said: "I'm not sure he'd want to come back to us. He'll want to stay at Chelsea and fight for his place."

Reading travel to Chelsea on Wednesday night in the Premier League. Kick off is at 1945 GMT with full match commentary on BBC Radio Berkshire.
