Ghana defender Mensah enhanced his reputation at the World Cup |
Reading have made a club record 3.5m bid for Rennes defender John Mensah. "We're waiting for things to happen. We're not in a position to start the ball rolling," Royals boss Steve Coppell told the Reading Chronicle.
"We depend on others, and our resources are such that we're waiting for the fall-out on other deals."
Mensah, 23, was an ever-present at the centre of Ghana's defence at the World Cup and signed a new three-year contract with Rennes in April.
Coppell also confirmed that he has earmarked several other targets as he looks towards the new Premiership season.
"At the moment we're hovering around," he added. "We know our targets. Sooner or later something will happen."
