Hahnemann has kept 16 clean sheets this season |
Reading goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann has signed a new contract to keep him at the Madejski until the summer of 2007. The keeper's deal was due to expire at the end of this season, but the Royals have taken the option of an extra year.
Hahnemann, 33, who joined from Fulham in 2002, has kept 16 clean sheets this season for the Championship leaders.
"I've been here a while now, I've played 170-odd games and I think that the team has grown and I've grown with it," Hahnemann told Reading's website.
"We've had 16 clean sheets, it could have been more but you're bound to have some misfortune at some points.
"There's less pressure to keep clean sheets because we're scoring so many, it's just professional pride that makes the whole team want that goose egg in the other team's column!"
Hahnemann has not missed a League game since the end of the 2003-04 season and is hoping his great club form will earn him a place in the USA's World Cup squad this summer.
