Royals fit for success
Graeme Murty
Murty came to Reading from York
Reading defender Graeme Murty has attributed the club's high-flying form to an intensive fitness regime in operation at the Madejski Stadium.

Currently with Scotland's Future Squad, Murty says he has never been fitter since coming under the watchful eye of sports scientist Niall Clarke, and believes it is one of the reasons why Reading are fifth in the table.

Murty said: "I have put on three-quarters of a stone of muscle since I have been at Reading.

"We do Olympic lifting and a lot of free weights, squats and presses - proper powerwork. It has definitely made a difference.

"At Reading we are one of the fittest teams. We have just signed Ivar Ingimarsson and he has never seen anything like it.

"Shaun Goater had never done any weights in his career and my room-mate Scott Murray, who is also in the Future Squad, lifts a cotton bud compared to everyone else!"

Wednesday's B international at Tannadice represents Murty's first international call-up, with the Middlesbrough-born player qualifying through Glaswegian father Eddie.
