By Martin Conaghan

2000: That's all from me for tonight folks. We'll be back tomorrow for coverage of Hearts v Paks in their Europa League qualifier. Thanks for staying with us - and for all your contributions.

1958: The two red cards cost Rangers dearly tonight. You have to wonder if they'd managed to keep a full compliment of players on the pitch, Malmo were there for the taking. Silly red cards that have cost them the big payout that comes with Champions League football.

1954: BBC Scotland pundit Stuart McCall says he feels Rangers didn't deserve to lose out tonight, after working hard to recover from the one goal deficit from the first leg.

1953: Rangers are out of the Champions League after losing 2-1 on aggregate against the Swedish champions Malmo over two legs. The Ibrox side will now face a qualifier to reach the group stages of the Europa League.

1951: FULL-TIMEMalmo 1-1 Rangers (Malmo go through 2-1 on aggregate)

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal

1950: Some late action from Rangers inside the Malmo penalty area ends with Jelavic picking up a yellow card for giving the referee a bit of good old-fashioned lip

1949: With almost the last kick of the ball, Steven Naismith flies a kick towards goal and sends it over the bar. If there ever was going to be an incredible late winner, that would have been it, but the chance is gone.

1947: Allan McGregor makes a comfortable save from the goalscorer Jiloan Hamad as the game enters added time.

1946: Larsson makes a searching run down the left and works his way inside, but his team-mates seem happy to spread the ball around and retain possession as the final minute ticks away.

1944: Rangers are struggling to get a hold of the ball, with Malmo running out time before Durmaz works his way into the box and fires a shot for goal that soars wide.

1943: Just three minutes of regulation time left in the match for Rangers to sneak a late goal and win the tie. Can they do it? Stay tuned...

1941: BBC Scotland pundit Billy Dodds reckons there's another twist to come with this match. I don't doubt it, but I just wonder where it's going to come from?

1940: As it now stands, Rangers are heading out of the Champions League and into the play-off stages of the Europa League, where they will be joined by Celtic - and, potentially, Hearts.

1938: Seconds after pulling off an incredible, instinctive save from a Jansen header, Rangers are facing exit from the Champions League after Hamad strikes a controlled left-footed volley from distance that catches the keeper off-guard and gives the Swedes a 2-1 aggregate lead on the night. Rangers now need just one goal to win the tie on the away goals rule.

1936: GOAL!!Malmo 1-1 Rangers (Hamad)

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal

1935: I sense that Malmo are going to start playing out time soon, spreading the ball around to wide areas, making spurious attacks on the Rangers goal and stretching their Scottish opponents with long, switched balls.

1933: Jelavic is caught offside on the far left, but his first touch of the ball was lousy anyway and if he'd been onside, he probably wouldn't have recovered the ball to do anything with it.

1932: Wilton Figueiredo sends a potential tie winner over the Rangers bar as the clock ticks down the remaining 15 minutes of the match.

1931: Nikica Jelavic latches on to a square ball from Steven Naismith on the edge of the Malmo penalty area and sclafs his shot wide of the mark in what was surely one of the best chances for Rangers to extend their lead on the night. Dreadful miss.

1930: SENDING OFFRicardinho is handed his second yellow card of the night and the hosts are down to 10 men.

Red card

1928: Rangers are down to nine men. They're winning 1-0 on the night, but it's 1-1 on aggregate. Can they see out the remainder of the match?

1927: Kris Wood says on Twitter: "I've stayed on at work to follow the #bbcsportsound text coverage of Rangers v Malmo. I wonder if this counts as overtime?"

1926: Malmo's Darden Rexhepi is stretchered off wearing a neck brace. Ouch.

1925: Whatever happens now, Rangers have a mountain to climb. They would do well to get this to extra time, with just over 22 minutes remaining.

1923: SENDING OFFMadjid Bougherra earns a red card for appearing to elbow Dardan Rexhepi on the back of the head when the two players went up for a high ball.

Red card

1922: Steven Naismith picks up a silly yellow card for a petulant foul on Jimmy Durmaz, who seems to be something of a pest when it comes to the handing out of cards to Ally McCoist's side.

1921: Larsson heads in from a long ball on the edge of the Rangers penalty area, but he's too far out, with no power behind it and Allan McGregor easily collects in the Rangers goal.

1918: Rangers are under some pressure now. Malmo are slowly building the attacks and earn another corner to keep the Glasgow side under the cosh.

1917: Stewart Medway sends us a belated joke on Twitter about Steven Whittaker's sending off: "Whittaker: first time he's put a ball on somebody's head in a long time!!"

1915: Kyran Wallace sends us this on Twitter: "Watching the game in Cancun, Mexico, on BBC livetext! Enjoying the coverage! It's all to play for! Come on Rangers!"

1912: Back to matters on the pitch in Sweden. Rangers are struggling to counter the extra-man advantage as Malmo press for a leveller in this match - which would almost certainly seal the tie for them, should it come.

1911: Our man Jim Spence in Dundee says that no deal has been agreed yet between Dundee United and Blackburn for David Goodwillie. Sounds like our colleagues at Sky are jumping the gun.

1907: We're chasing reports from other media outlets that David Goodwillie has completed his move to Blackburn Rovers from Dundee United, but we have nothing confirmed just yet.

1906: If you're just joining us, it's Malmo 0-1 Rangers in Sweden. The match is poised at 1-1 on aggregate, with both sides having scored an away goal. If the score remains the same, we're heading for extra-time. Oh, and Rangers are down to 10 men after Steven Whittaker was sent off for throwing the ball at a Malmo player in the first half.

1905: Malmo are passing the ball around more comfortably, and Rangers look like they're standing off a little in the early stages of this second half. It could be that Ally McCoist wants to try and open up the Swedes some more to try and counter the extra man advantage.

1904: Dardan Rexhepi is brought on as a substitute for Miljan Mutavdzic in Malmo's second change of the match.

1903: And we're back for the second half at the Swedebank Stadion.

1848: I'm going to munch on some half-time orange segments, spray on some wintergreen and slurp down some Lucozade (other energy drinks are available) in preparation for what promises to be an exciting second half. Don't go anywhere folks - I'll be right back!

1847: The ref blows the whistle on what has been an event-packed first half and the Rangers players surround him in protest at the lack of action taken against Durmaz for kicking out at McCulloch.

1846: HALF-TIME:Malmo 0-1 Rangers

Half time

1844: McCulloch picks up a yellow card for his trouble, but Durmaz escapes any kind of punishment - limping off the park for treatment. I know we're supposed to be impartial here at the BBC, but that was disgraceful - Durmaz should have earned a yellow at least, if not a red for violent conduct.

Yellow card

1843: Lee McCulloch puts in a tasty tackle against Jimmy Durmaz and the Swedish midfielder kicks out at the Scotland international from the ground.

1842: Just two minutes of the first half remain, barring added time. If Rangers can get into the break with a 1-0 lead, it could go a long way to winning the tie.

1840: Brazilian defender Ricardinho picks up a yellow card for a silly foul that could have been avoided.

Yellow card

1839: "Rangers would have cruised to victory here tonight if they'd kept 11 men on the pitch." BBC Scotland pundit Billy Dodds on Sportsound on 810MW. They may yet still win it Billy.

1838: Ian (sambora71) on Twitter: "Rangers can do this. Malmo look a completely different team than last week."

1837: It's interesting to hear the reactions of the crowd - even at the most trivial of incidents. They have the capability of swaying the referee's mind in a 50-50 decision by over-reacting. The absence of away fans could have a major impact on the eventual outcome of this match.

1833: Just over 30 minutes played in Sweden and Rangers look the better side, despite being down to 10 men. As Billy Dodds has commented on Radio Scotland 810MW, Malmo don't look half the side they were at Ibrox last week.

1832: "Jelavic scoring will be a massive boost in confidence for Rangers! I expect them to score again but they've got to stay focused." From Iain Fordyce on Twitter.

1831: Durmaz ploughs his way into the Rangers box, but McGregor gets a hand to the ball as the midfielder strikes for goal. Nervous moments there for Rangers as the danger is eventually cleared.

1829: Malmo can't seem to take advantage of the extra man and Rangers look even more determined to take the game to their Swedish hosts.

1827: Maurice Edu gets involved in a tussle with Jimmy Durmaz and the midfielder falls to the ground clutching his face as though he had been stung by a hornet. The ref is having none of it and tells him to get back on his feet.

1826: An incredible few minutes in Sweden - Steven Whittaker receives a red card, then Rangers score to keep the tie alive. As it stands, if the score remains the same at full-time, we're facing extra-time, and, possibly penalties. Perhaps there's more drama to come.

1825: "All is forgiven Buraspor. We'll take that money for Whittaker." From Chris Cox on Twitter using the hashtag: #bbcsportsound.

1824: Having just lost a man to a red card, Rangers gain a goal though Nikica Jelavic who latches on to a Maurice edu long ball and strikes for home from close range with his less-favoured left, over on the right-hand side of the penalty area - and, all of a sudden, Ally McCoist's men are back in the game.

1823: GOAL!!!Malmo 0-1 Rangers (Jelavic)

Goooooooaaaaaaaaal

1822: "It was crazy, it was stupid. It might have been a yellow but you don't give the referee the opportunity to give you a red." Sportsound pundit Billy Dodds on Steven Whittaker's red card.

1821: If you're just joining us, Rangers are down to 10 men, with the match 22 minutes old after he chucked a ball at one of Malmo's players. The match is still poised at 0-0, but Rangers are trailing 1-0 on aggregate from the first leg.

1817: SENDING OFFSteven Whittaker is shown a red card for throwing the ball at Malmo midfielder Jimmy Durmaz during an off-the-ball incident. The television replay makes it look pretty damning for the Scotland international. He chucked the ball with considerable force at the player's back and probably deserved a yellow at the very least, but he's gone in for an early bath and has given his team-mates a mountain to climb.

Red card

1816: There's a bit of a stramash taking place after an incident involving Steven Whittaker apparently throwing the ball at one of the Malmo players.

1814: Rangers keeper Allan McGregor tips a free kick from Brazilian Wilton Figueiredo from 25 yards out. Scary moment there for the visitors.

1810: Malmo gain a free-kick inside the Rangers half, giving the hosts a chance to attack the visitors' goal for the first time since kick-off. Jansen latches on to a loose ball inside the Rangers penalty area and skies the ball over the bar.

1808: Almost 10 minutes played and Malmo don't look particularly comfortable. BBC Scotland pundit Billy Dodds reckons the surfeit of home supporters is making the players nervous.

1806: I understand Rangers have never overturned a deficit from the first leg in a qualifier in Europe when they've played at home in the first leg.

1805: Nikica Jelavic powers on to a through pass and sprints into the Malmo penalty area, but he's cut short by the keeper Dusan Melicharek who takes a bit of a knock in the clash.

1804: A free-kick and a flurry of corners for Rangers shows their intent from the outset with only five minutes played. It's one-way traffic in the opening stages, with Rangers looking determined and resolute. Will it last?

1803: "I think the Gers not having any fans in the stadium will work... it'll spur the players on to silence the home crowd and do it for the fans sitting back at home." Roger from Rotherhithe.

1802: Rangers push early on for a corner kick, but a bit of pushing and shoving leads to a free-kick for Malmo down at the farside corner.

1801: "Surely this is already a must win game for Ally McCoist!" from Keith Rundle on Twitter using the hashtag #bbcsportsound

1800: It looks like a nice summer's night in Sweden. Sunny here too. Will the sun still be shining for Rangers at the full-time whistle?

1759: And we've started one minute early with Rangers in their away strip kicking the match off.

1758: Two minutes until kick-off, and our commentary team of Liam McLeod and Billy Dodds have the microphones in their hands tonight to bring you full coverage of the match.

1755: The players are out on the pitch with the Malmo fans waving a sea of blue and white flags (light blue and white, not Rangers blue). Looks like there's a healthy crowd at the Swedebank Stadion, albeit bereft of Glaswegians.

1752: It'll be a strange one tonight, with no Rangers fans in the crowd after the club was banned by Uefa from selling tickets to travelling supporters. Ally McCoist says it would have been nice to have the supporters there, but "it's not the end of the world".

1751: If you're just joining us - don't forget folks, the match kicks off at 6pm UK time.

1748: There's just under 10 minutes left until to kick-off in Sweden. Send us your thoughts on the line-up and Rangers' chances via text on 80295 and we'll publish the best entries here on the live text updates.

1747: Former Rangers midfielder and current Motherwell manager Stuart McCall is one of our team of pundits tonight on Radio Scotland 810MW. If you're in the UK, you can listen on the radio or via Freeview on channel 719, Sky on channel 0116, Virgin Media on channel 930 (or 931) and on Freesat on channel 712. We have no online coverage of the match tonight, other than yours truly and my trusty keyboard. Annie McGuire is my partner-in-crime tonight, and she will provide you with an in-depth match report at the final whistle.

1743: I guess the other big news of the day for Rangers is that David Goodwillie will most likely not be making the switch from Dundee United to Ibrox, since he's on the verge of signing a deal with Blackburn Rovers.

1741: Just one change for Rangers tonight. The Ibrox club have been dealt a blow as Dorin Goian is ruled out with an injury just hours after being granted clearance to play in the clash by Uefa. Rangers announced on their website that the Romanian was carrying an injury and would not feature, meaning Sasa Papac has been drafted in to cover at centre-half, with skipper David Weir also injured. Juan Manuel Ortiz has been added to the starting line-up.

1740: Some team news from the Swedebank Stadion:

Malmo FF: Melicharek, Andersson, Ricardinho, Jansson, Mutavdzic, Figueiredo, Hamad, Pekalski, Durmaz, Larsson, Mehmeti. Subs: Garaca, Aubynn, Yago, Amin Nazari, Rexhepi, Stenstrom, Nilsson.

Rangers: McGregor, Papac, Bougherra, Juanma Ortiz, Wallace, Whittaker, McCulloch, Edu, Davis, Jelavic, Naismith. Subs: Alexander, Broadfoot, Fleck, Healy, Wylde, Bendiksen, Hemmings.

Tonight's referee: Vladislav Bezborodov of Russia.

1735: Good evening everyone (is it evening yet?) and welcome to our live text updates of Malmo v Rangers in the second leg of the third qualifying round for the Champions League. We'll have some team news for you shortly, but if you're just joining us, don't forget you can listen to the match on Radio Scotland 810MW if you're in the UK. However, for everyone else, you'll have my company for the duration of the match as we try to bring you every kick of the ball.
