Rangers confident over Kenny Miller contract extension

Rangers striker Kenny Miller
Kenny Miller's current Rangers deal expires next summer

Rangers are hopeful striker Kenny Miller will sign a contract extension within the next two weeks.

The 30-year-old has impressed this season, scoring eight goals for the Scottish Premier League leaders.

Miller, whose current deal expires next summer, rejected the Ibrox club's first offer of an extension.

"We are not far away from an agreement," manager Walter Smith told Rangers News. "Hopefully... everything will be ironed out."

Rangers lost prolific striker Kris Boyd to Middlesbrough under freedom of contract in the summer, while James Beattie, Vladimir Weiss and Nikica Jelavic have been brought in to bolster Smith's attacking options.

And Miller appears to be relishing his role during this campaign, scoring a double in last weekend's 4-0 league win over Dundee United.

"Eight goals from Kenny is terrific," said Smith. "He is playing very well right now.

"His role has changed slightly from one where he was leading the line to one where he is now getting into the penalty area.

"His confidence in terms of finishing is there for all to see and he has shown he is more than capable of putting the ball away."
