Rangers and Celtic are again in European action this season
By Alasdair Lamont
Scottish champions Rangers earned almost 10 times as much as Glasgow rivals Celtic for their participation in European football last season.
Rangers took in £14m in television revenue and prize money as a result of their involvement in the Champions League group stage.
That was despite picking up only two points in a disappointing campaign.
On their way to finishing third in their Europa League group, Celtic earned just £1.5m.
It is a scenario that is likely to be repeated this season, with Rangers again in the Champions League, having qualified automatically.
Celtic, who were runners-up in the Scottish Premier League, lost to Braga of Portugal in Champions League qualifying.
However, they will secure Europa League qualification on Thursday if they can see out their play-off tie against Utrecht, which they lead 2-0 from the first leg.
