Rangers to assess Honduras striker Georgie Welcome
Welcome featured as a substitute in three matches at the World Cup
Walter Smith has confirmed he will assess Honduras striker Georgie Welcome during a trial period at Rangers' Murray Park training ground next week.
However, the Ibrox manager will not be able to field the player in friendly matches against Clyde or Newcastle because he does not have a work permit.
The 25-year-old belongs to Deportivo Motagua in his homeland.
And he featured as a substitute in all three of the matches Honduras played at the World Cup in South Africa.
Assistant boss Ally McCoist watched Welcome, who has netted three goals in 17 international appearances, at the World Cup and now Smith will have a look for himself.
"Georgie Welcome will be coming to join us next week on trial," Smith told his club's website.
"We can't play him in the games because of the work permit situation but we can look at him training,
"We will see what happens and then take it from there."
Rangers take on the Bully Wee at Broadwood on Wednesday and then host Newcastle United on Saturday in their final warm-up game ahead of the new campaign.
