Beasley scored his first goal at Ibrox in the 6-1 win against Motherwell

Rangers winger DaMarcus Beasley insists he never wanted to leave after recently being linked with a move out of Ibrox.

Beasley had spent much of this season out of the first-team picture until getting a run of games in December.

"The gaffer and I had a talk. I just needed playing time and he understood that," said the USA international. "It was a man-to-man talk.

"Now he's giving me a chance to play. I never wanted to leave the club, I just wanted to play."

The 27-year-old, who followed his midweek strike against Dundee United with another goal against Motherwell on Saturday, is now focussing on keeping his place in the Rangers team in the hope that he can feature in next summer's World Cup finals.

"Obviously, the World Cup is in the back of my mind, but we're not there yet," said the former PSV Eindhoven and Manchester City player.

"At the moment, I'm on the outside looking in, so I'm just enjoying playing for Rangers and trying to retain the SPL title."

Beasley impressed in Saturday's 6-1 win over Well and insists Rangers can still improve as they look to defend their Scottish Premier League crown.

"We still have Pedro Mendes and Mo Edu in the treatment room, so we can get a lot better," added Beasley.

"We are not complacent, we're all striving to get better.

"We will enjoy the win, but we have work to do and we're not even close."
