Novo was pictured making gestures after Rangers' defeat at Pittodrie

Rangers striker Nacho Novo has been charged with improper conduct for allegedly gesturing to Aberdeen supporters at Pittodrie last month.

The 30-year-old Spaniard was pictured with his shorts lowered beneath his buttocks as he left the pitch at the end of Rangers' 1-0 defeat.

But it is the alleged finger gesture that has landed him with a Scottish Football Association charge.

The next disciplinary committee meeting will consider the matter on 26 January.

An SFA spokesperson said: "The review panel decided that there was a case to answer in respect of the alleged case of improper conduct on the part of Rangers player Nacho Novo, having allegedly gestured to Aberdeen supporters after the match on 28 November.

"Subsequently, the matter is being referred to the disciplinary committee for investigation and/or consideration."

Celtic goalkeepers Artur Boruc and Lukasz Zaluska have both been fined for making gestures to opposition fans in recent seasons, the latter while with Dundee United.

Chief Inspector George MacDonald of Grampian Police said in a statement at the time of the Novo incident: "Our enquiries with members of the public are being progressed at the moment.

"Once they have been completed and any relevant evidence gathered, we will then be in touch with both clubs involved to make an assessment on how to progress the investigation."
