David Weir has shown great consistency since moving from Everton
Rangers manager Walter Smith has not ruled out offering veteran defender David Weir another deal in the summer.
Weir, who will be 39 when his contract expires at the end of the season, has been in superb form since signing form Everton in January 2007.
"He's showing he could go again for another year. He's been really steady for us," Smith told the club website.
"His experience, professionalism and fitness mean he is able to handle anything thrown at him."
Smith said Weir had been an integral part of his back four for the past two seasons and that his consistency had impressed him.
"He has already surpassed my initial expectations of him at Rangers," Smith added.
"I thought he would be here for a three or four-month period, from the January until the end of the season, but he is still here and still playing really well."
And Smith backed Weir for a career in the dugout when he decides to hang up his boots.
"Davie is doing his coaching badges and management is a natural follow-on for him."
