Rangers manager Walter Smith has provided a written explanation to the Scottish FA of comments he made after the goalless draw against Motherwell.
Smith criticised assistant referee Tom Murphy after the official chalked off a late Kris Boyd effort at Fir Park.
"They asked me to give my views on that by letter and that letter has now been sent off," said Smith.
The SFA's General Purposes Committee, which meets at Hampden next month, could punish Smith for his words.
After the draw at Fir Park, Smith told BBC Sport that "the stand-side linesman Mr Murphy... had one of those last season and gave an offside Scott McDonald goal (against Rangers)".
Smith added: "Kris was onside and it's disappointing that we've been hit this season by officials making the wrong decisions."
He said it was frustrating that Boyd's effort was not allowed to stand, given that "in everybody's minds, Rangers never get a decision against them".
