Controversial striker Kris Boyd insisted he was not trying to prove a point with his double strike in Rangers' 3-1 win away to Hamilton.
The striker has been heavily criticised for his decision to quit international football while George Burley remains Scotland manager.
But Boyd, told by Burley to work harder, said: "I don't need to prove anything to anybody, apart from myself.
"I'll get my head down and work hard and see what happens from there."
Rangers manager Walter Smith has also described Boyd as an enigma but started the Scot ahead of Jean-Claude Darcheville at New Douglas Park.
"It was important, once I knew I was starting, to go out and get myself on the scoresheet and I've done that," said Boyd.
"Hopefully, I can get a chance to show what I can do in the next few games."
Boyd equalised for Rangers from the penalty spot against Hamilton and added the second goal with a header, although it did look like he was offside.
And Smith said: "The second goal was an exceptionally good one and I was delighted for him after the last couple of weeks."
