Veteran Rangers defender David Weir is likely to sign a new one-year contract with the Glasgow club.
There had been hints at the end of the season that the centre-half might not continue at Ibrox because his family were still living in England.
But Rangers boss Walter Smith appears keen to retain the 38-year-old, who signed from Everton in January 2007.
"David has spoken to Walter Smith and that seemed positive," Weir's agent David Lockwood told BBC Sport.
"I hope to speak with chief executive Martin Bain in due course."
Weir, who is out of contract, played 60 times last season, forming a lauded partnership with Carlos Cuellar.
Rangers said in May that they were leaving negotiations about a new deal until the close season.
And Weir was subsequently linked with a return to English football with Championship outfit Birmingham City, managed by former Rangers manager Alex McLeish.
