Lee McCulloch said he feared his season was over

Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist has confirmed that Scotland midfielder Lee McCulloch is a definite contender to play in Wednesday's Uefa Cup final.

McCulloch, who turns 30 on the day of the final, has been out of action since sustaining a broken bone in his foot against Celtic on 16 April.

But he could be joined by Charlie Adam, Brahim Hemdani and DaMarcus Beasley in recovering in time to travel.

"These guys are well in the frame for Wednesday," McCoist said.

"Brahim has been different class for us in Europe this year and big Lee's coming back from injury, Charlie Adam's come back from injury, Beasley's coming back.

"We've got a full clean bill of health just about."

While goalkeeper Allan McGregor and winger Chris Burke are certain absentees, Beasley was fit enough to sit on the bench in Saturday's 3-1 win over Dundee United.

McCulloch had been hoping to take part himself but must now hope to prove his fitness ahead of Wednesday's showpiece final against Zenit St Petersburg.

The former Motherwell and Wigan midfielder had thought his season was over - as had Adam and Beasley. I'm going to be fit for it, so it's up to the manager who plays," he said of the Uefa Cup final.

"We are in the final and we're there on merit," he said.

"We won't look at it as pressure but enjoy the day and try your best and hope we get our hands on the trophy."

McCulloch said that, despite the controversy over the fixture congestion, the players were focused on their push for domestic and European silverware.

"The Uefa Cup run has been fantastic. Everybody wants to play," he said.

"But if the manager doesn't want to pick me then I will just get on with it."

McCulloch said Rangers were underdogs going into the Uefa Cup final but believed they could beat Zenit St Petersburg.

"When the league ask you to play four games in a week, well, you have to play, but everybody I've been speaking to in England has been laughing at it," he said.

McCulloch rejected criticism of Rangers' lack of goals en-route to the Uefa Cup final.

"It doesn't matter how you do it as long as you come out winners," he said.
