Ferguson says Celtic are still the benchmark despite Rangers' fine victory |
Rangers captain Barry Ferguson insisted Celtic are still favourites for the title even after brushing their rivals aside 3-0 at Ibrox. The midfielder added the team must keep their feet on the ground despite the convincing victory.
"The determination and attitude of everyone on the park was second to none and we deserved to win," said Ferguson.
"But there's still a long way to go in the league and it's back to the drawing board on Monday."
Ferguson said manager Walter Smith had stressed to the players how important the match was - especially following Rangers' defeat to Hibernian at Ibrox in their last league match.
"The most important thing was to win today because if Celtic had won they would have opened up a six point gap," he added.
"Celtic are still a fantastic team, and still favourites for the league, but I think it'll be a close call, and we're hoping we can put a better fight up this year."
