Smith was pleased with his side's second half performance |
Rangers manager Walter Smith was delighted to taste victory in the Old Firm derby after Ugo Ehiogu netted the only goal at Celtic Park. "Celtic started better than we did and put us under a lot of pressure," he said. "But after the break we played very well without creating too much.
"It always looked like a goal would come from a set-piece since there were not too many opportunities.
"The goal gave us something to hold on to and we defended extremely well."
Ehiogu's goal came early in the second half after Rangers had survived a first half onslaught from their old rivals.
"It's great to get a result against Celtc at Parkhead," midfielder Charlie Adam told BBC Sport.
"And it was important to build a bit of momentum ahead of our Uefa Cup tie on Wednesday.
"It was backs against the wall for spells but it just shows how good we are at defending."
